Located at the corner of Dexter Avenue North and Roy Street in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood, 701 Dexter is a new 11-story life science building. The building was developed by Alexandria Real Estate Equities, designed by ZGF Architects and built by Lease Crutcher Lewis. The project introduces a bike-and pedestrian-friendly streetscape, highlighted by a three-story automated bike storage system visible through the lobby’s glass facade.

Dissimilar Metal Design provided custom-fabricated and preweathered steel panel systems with recessed hardware for multiple areas of the building. The patinated steel is featured along the ground-level landscape walls and the building’s exterior facade, adding warmth and texture to the high-performance design.

The project includes approximately 227,000 square feet of office and laboratory space, four levels of underground parking, and street-level retail. Landscape design by Site Workshop integrates native plantings and durable materials to create a cohesive connection between the building, the sidewalk, and the surrounding public realm.
