We’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about what Dissimilar Metal Design offers in terms of fabrication. Our name and our portfolio often focus on design intent, surface finishes, and architectural outcomes, so it’s easy to assume that we’re a design studio, or just a metal patina factory. But fabrication has always been at the core of what we offer.
We provide fabrication on nearly every system we work on.
Everything starts with the metal surface. Unique architectural metals that perform and don’t deteriorate or bleed onto other surfaces. This is what people come to Dissimilar to discover.
The metals we work with — weathering steel, stainless, zinc, copper, and aluminum — each demand a unique approach, and we’ve developed specialized handling methods for each to maintain surface integrity and achieve consistent, high-quality results.
Every DMD project begins with design coordination, but it’s in the fabrication phase where the work takes shape. From brake-formed panels and intricate folded details to fully integrated rainscreen and cladding assemblies, we control the fabrication process from start to finish. This approach allows us to deliver systems that perform as beautifully as they look.
Our goal is to bridge the gaps between your design studio, the fabrication floor, and the finished install, to create architectural metal systems that respect both the craft and the concept.
